Grant Recipients: The Morrison Family

The Morrison Family is near and dear to our hearts.

While Kevin Morrison was coaching at the University of Washington, he had the pleasure of recruiting and coaching our very own, Brianna (Ruiz) Bishop (Braden’s wife). Kevin and Bri have remained in touch over the years. We are humbled and honored to be able to share their story and provide a platform so that their family and friends, nationwide, have a platform to offer financial support.

Kevin Morrison is 48 years old and has been diagnosed with Stage 5 Early Onset Alzheimer’s. He, his wife Heather, and their 4 children - 9 year old son Jayce and 7 year old triplets Jaylen, Myles, and Mya - reside in San Diego, CA.

In July 2020, their lives changed forever! After a PET scan, Kevin was given a terminal diagnosis and told he had significant impairment, also known as dementia. He was told that he would never work again (collegiate basketball coach), would never drive again, and that his wife would now have to be in charge of all family roles. In early May of 2021, a team of neurologists concluded that Kevin is more than likely suffering from Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease.

The Morrison family doesn’t know exactly how much time they have together. Given his age, things will progress rapidly and will be really aggressive (which it has been already) because it is very rare for a normal healthy 48 year old to be diagnosed with this deadly disease and already be in stage 5 out of 7. On the other hand, his younger body is not typical of an older frail and weak individual, so that could keep him alive a little longer but his quality of life may not be exceptional because nothing can slow down his brain from deteriorating.

The news has been completely overwhelming and devastating for the Morrison family emotionally, physically and financially. Kevin and Heather struggle with the prospect that Kevin will miss out on their children’s major life achievements, graduations and athletic accomplishments. Heather struggles with what the future holds and figuring out how to provide for and raise their 4 beautiful children without the role of their father.

The Morrison family can use your help; they are limited to how much money they can make in a year, otherwise Kevin loses his medical benefits.

On behalf of 4MOM, we have established the Morrison Family Fund Grant. You have the opportunity to donate to them through this Fund and the money will be used to pay their medical bills, utilities, provide groceries, school supplies, you name it. Anything they need covered as a family financially, will be paid from this account.

Washington Huskies Host Morrison Strong Game

On January 23rd the University of Washington Women's Basketball Team hosted a Morrison Strong game to show support for their former Husky assistant coach, Kevin Morrison. The team welcomed Kevin and his family to Alaska Airlines Arena for the Pac-12 opener against Oregon State. Players wore t-shirts with the phrase "Morrison Strong" to show support for Kevin and his family in the fight against Alzheimer's.

‘Our entire life crumbled’: UW Huskies community helps ex-coach Kevin Morrison and family deal with Alzheimer’s

Kevin is a beloved Husky, who in May 2021 was diagnosed with Stage 5 Early Onset Alzheimer's. Head coach Tina Langley has known him for years, and was grateful for the opportunity to come together as a Husky family to support the Morrison’s. A portion of all ticket sales were donated to the Morrison Family Fund which, when combined with the generous contributions received in the days leading up to the game, helped raise over $7,000 for the Morrison’s!
